Our Story
Founded in 2004, the Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy (MKWC) is a non-profit trust dedicated to preserving the environment and the wildlife within it. The Conservancy is located 10kms from Nanyuki town, at the foot of the scenic Mount Kenya forest ecosystem, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This is a region of significant biodiversity.

Mountain Bongo Breeding and Rewilding
The Mountain Bongo breeding and rewilding program stands as the beacon of hope for this critically endangered antelope. This ambitious initiative aims to reverse the decline of the iconic bongo, a striking and elusive antelope species.
Animal Orphanage
Located within the Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy, the Animal Orphanage is a unique facility to give orphaned, injured, neglected, abused, or frightened wild animals a second chance. The Orphanage provides shelter and professional care with the aim of releasing these animals back into the wild where they belong.
Conservation Education
The success of the Mountain Bongo breeding, release, and eventual survival in the wild depends on the support of the communities in surrounding areas. Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy (MKWC) has set up community conservation education and empowerment programs to create awareness on the plight of Mountain Bongo and sustainable natural resource management.

Trek For The Bongo 2024
The annual Trek for the Bongo aims to increase awareness and raise funds for the recovery and conservation of the Mountain Bongo through breeding and rewilding of the species and restoration of its habitat.
Trek For The Bongo 2023
In October 2023, a group of 10 trekkers undertook the challenging journey to summit Mount Kenya's Lenana Peak while raising funds for the second annual Trek for the Bongo. Driven by their passion for the outdoors and a shared commitment to making a difference, they achieved a remarkable feat by summitting the peak in just three days, rather than the expected four.
Trek For The Bongo 2022
The inaugural of the Trek for the Mountain Bongo was held in 2022. This hiking expedition saw one man’s thrill for adventure and passion for wildlife raise funds to boost the Mountain Bongo breeding and rewilding program. Over the course of three days, he successfully summited Mount Kenya’s Lenana peak three times! All the funds raised were matched by our primary sponsor, Janus Continental Group.
